The Greatest Misconception of My Generation

One of the greatest misconceptions of my generation is that we can have a move of God without having to do the work of God.

In the Old Testament there was a detailed, specific, and methodical process that had to be followed stringently when transporting the Ark of the Covenant which symbolized the very Presence of God.

At one point David was to move the Ark. Despite his knowledge of the protocol, he decides to transport it on what the Bible calls a 'new cart.' This cart was technologically advanced making the once cumbersome task more convenient, less challenging, and hands-free.

Prior to the new cart, we find earlier in scripture that the Ark was to be moved by specific men a specific way. Among other details, it was to be carried by two men on each side providing...balance. It was also to be carried on the shoulders of these men.

It was heavy.

It was uncomfortable.

It was work.

It was hard.

The method was out of date = not cool.

In fact, when the Philistines took the Ark captive they developed a more clever way of transporting it. Some propose that this is where David's idea for the new cart came from in the first place.

It is interesting to note that although for many years prior to Israel reclaiming the Ark, the Philistines had in their possession the presence of God yet they refused and denied the power of God.

I can't help but see a parallel.

In our culture it seems as though we not only tolerate but collectively have an affinity for the presence of God. Everything is 'spiritual.' In fact, everyone is 'spiritual.' As a nation we print 'In God We Trust' on our money, sing 'God Bless America' on the Capital steps, and our pseudo-Christian leaders even close national addresses with, 'God Bless You.' But when it comes to a demonstration of the power of God we/they get uncomfortable. Unfortunately, I'd say this is even true in our churches. It's as if we are cool with God being there as long as he doesn't do anything too crazy, challenge our paradigms too much, or remotely convict us to change.

As for me and perhaps some of you reading this, I not only want God in attendance, I want God active. I don't just want him around me, I want him in me, operating through me. But these opportunities are carried on the shoulders of sacrifice, discomfort, and inconvenience. We can't afford to make the same mistake David made in pawning off this massive responsibility by thinking we can take a short-cut.

It's a burden we have been chosen to bare and we must choose to bare it.

The tragedy in this Old Testament story is that in the process of the movement of the Ark, it began to fall and the young man driving the cart stretched out his hand to grab it, hoping to stop it from hitting the ground.

Instantly...

He died.

This young man was in line for the priesthood, he had a destiny, undoubtably, he had a calling. But because David didn't teach him (by example) the importance of carrying the Ark on his shoulders, the way God intended, when it began to fall the young man tried to take matters into his own hands.

And in this we uncover the truth that:

The presence of God cannot be carried into the world in sinful hands, but rather, solely on the shoulders of sacrifice.

In our hands it becomes merely a possession or perhaps a commodity, while on our shoulders it becomes a burden. And with every step its weight reminds us of the responsibility and the opportunity we have to carry Christ into the world.

Our mission as the church mirrors the very mission of David in that day. We must bring God back to a place of national consciousness. To a place where He is not just present but experienced. This isn't going to be convenient, it's going to be challenging. It will not be absent of sacrifice or discomfort. And if you or I intended on being a part of God's Kingdom being ushered into the earth in the 21st Century, we better be willing to shoulder the burden that comes with it.

One of the greatest misconceptions of my generation is that we can have a move of God without having to do the work of God.

God is doing awesome things at Royalwood. In 12 revival services, we have had 40 people receive the Holy Ghost. We had 6 new people baptized in Jesus' Name this past Sunday alone! We had 4 new families join Royalwood in the month of June with 4 more families planning to join pending a pastoral meeting.

Please continue the prayer and fasting for God is not finished with the work He plans to do in our midst.

The United States Congress declared September "Gospel Music Heritage Month".
The celebration was announced a couple of weeks ago. A multi-cultural lineup of local and national gospel music artists performed at the new light church's east campus. "This is a reflection of gospel music around the nation and around the world. We'll be paying tribute to Elvis Presley, who's only songs to win a Grammy were gospel music. So the idea of celebrating gospel music heritage came from the rich gospel tradition of Houston," Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee said. Lee wrote the legislation to make the month official.

Brandon Macey, along with the Royalwood vocalists and musicians led the conference in vibrant worship Thursday night. Additionally, Brittany Macey encouraged those in attendance with the song, You Are For Me, which many later said, "was exactly what I needed." It was a privilege for Royalwood to join with other churches from the South Texas District for a life-changing time of worship.

God Blocked it - Testimony

Have you ever had something bad happen and just really question why... or have a hard time believing that anything good could come out of it? Well, I'm sure most of you heard about the oil rig out in the Gulf of Mexico that exploded last week. There were several critically injured and eleven are still missing, presumed dead. Well my son Rocky used to work on that rig. He was upset when he lost that job. When I heard about the explosion, I just kept thinking what if Rocky had been on the rig! So I dug out his old schedule and followed it thru today's date. YES he would have been on that rig when it exploded! I can't tell you how many different thoughts were going thru my head. He was upset when he lost that job and we thought it was such a bad thing. But the one thought that just kept going thru my head over and over was GOD BLOCKED IT! Then I remembered when our choir first sang that song, I had an overwhelming feeling of God all over me so I stepped out in the isle and started weeping and speaking in tongues. I knew God was doing something. I just didn't know what. However, now I can't help but look back in hind sight and I can see God had already been working. The devil had a plan but God, He intercepted the devil's plan and told him NO! GOD BLOCKED IT!!! Thank you Jesus for blocking the devil's plan!!!

Reaching...Teaching...Serving

Reaching is not a planned event it’s a mindset. When we wake up every morning we should wake up and say “who am I going to reach today?” Reaching as it applies to Royalwood starts way before service begins. Reaching might be through turning point, a street service, or just from an invitation on the job, or to a neighbor. However, when a guest gets here, we might only have one opportunity to help change their lives forever. Before service begins, people are going to drive onto a well groomed campus. They will be met at the door by smiling greeters and ushers. They are going to receive information about the church, and hostesses are going to receive their information in return. Contact is going to be made with that special guest letting them know how important it was for them to visit. Once they get inside the sanctuary, everything that we do in the service should be another extension of God’s hand reaching out to them. Every song, every saint, every prayer, each video, the preached word, should be God through us showing them that he cares about their soul. That is reaching!

Colossians 1:28 says “Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:” An important part of the formula of men made perfect through Christ is teaching. It is up to us to be able to open up His word and let the light of truth shine into people’s darkened lives. Each guest that comes to Royalwood should have a Bible Study taught to them, showing them truth. Once they are born again and become babes in Christ, it is up to the mother (which is the church) to help them grow into mature disciples of God. Once someone has been taught a Bible Study and filled with the Holy Ghost, capable teachers are ready to assist in the growth of each disciple through our launch class. Hosiah 4:6 says “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…. Teaching is more than just a classroom and dry eraser board. It’s the impartation of knowledge to give power to the people of God! That is teaching!

Our God is a God of action. If we are truly going to be like him then we must strive to be like him in every way! One of Jesus Christ’s greatest attributes was his servitude. Washing feet, healing the sick, feeding the hungry, giving those that thirst a drink, cleansing the leapers….these were just a few things that the Savior did to serve. As people are reached, and taught and molded into vessels that God can use, it is our responsibility to show them where they can serve someone else. Through 20/20 class and our New Members department we can be shown and guided to fit into His Kingdom. Let’s be like Joshua and say “but as for me and my house we will SERVE the Lord!

Our Vision 2010 Service is Sunday, Feb. 14 @ 6pm.

We envision a place where the lonely, the hurting, the bound, and the oppressed can find love, healing, freedom, hope and salvation.

We envision sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with thousands of unsaved friends and people in our communities and around the world, many of whom will receive Christ.

We envision all of our members developing into fully devoted and fully equipped followers of Jesus Christ through our worship services, adult Bible fellowships, children’s ministries, etc.
